Oral History of a Billionare

Imagine being immortal to the most fatal things; for example a zombie breaking into your house and slaughtering you until your blood turns into brownish black goo. This is how Breckinridge "Brick" Scott felt while being trapped where the record low temperature has been recorded, Antarctica. While "Brick" was trapped in Antarctica Jesika Hendricks was in Canada suffering from the effects of the zombie war. These are 2 different stories of 2 different people in the roughest of times but because of the outcome of events they see things differently for the rest of their lives.

In the book World War Z a journalist is going around the world and gathering stories from survivors of the tragic zombie war. In this book there are many stories all raping into the same time periods of the zombie war. In these two very different stories one man is living the time of his life the other woman is starving through the harsh cold.

Jesika's point of view in this story would make the zombie war seem like the worst thing ever(which it was pretty bad). Jeskia's family had found a group of other people that had traveled to the great white north. They were fine for a while but they started to starve and freeze. When these events occurred everything got worst; everyone was stealing and when there was no food what so ever they turned to cannibalism.

If you were to take Jesika's story and make the point of view "Brick's" this story(like many others) would drastically change. Brick would be nice and comfy in his dome making thousands by the second because of his phony drug Phalanx which is supposed to make you immune to zombie bites. If you were to read this book in the point of view of a person like Brick this zombie war would be a huge joke. Also there would be no point for writing this book on the zombie war.

So now imagine being immortal but, billions of other people suffering.  No one can be immortal but if someone was it would be Breckinridge Scott. He sees this war as revenue while everyone else is in a chaotic world trying to survive. If Max Brooks had put more stories in Bricks point of view this would not be the chaotic and exhilarating book that he made it to be. As you can see there are many different stories all different while resulting in the same pain of the zombie war branded in their head for life.

Foreshadowing

There is astonishing foreshadowing in the short story " The Lottery " by Shirley Jackson. The lottery is about a community coming together to stone a selected individual. In the beginning of the story it mentions kids running around, playing and gathering stones into piles and shoveling them into pockets. If you were to read this for the first time you wouldn't think much of the stones but, it is a key point in the story.

Foreshadowing is giving hints in the text that are shown and affect the story later. In " The Lottery " there are small points in foreshadowing and there are big ones. In this story as I mentioned earlier, the stones are a huge hint because if you read the short story for the first time you would think the kids gathering stones would be to stone someone, you would think they were playing. This is how the author shows foreshadowing in a discrete matter

For quality windows siding and doors call 866 4Feldco

Hi my names paul; i'm a window on 42nd streets Wilson house. Over the years the Wilsons have neglected to clean us the windows on their house. We have gone through deep freezes of the winter, rapid rain in the spring along with blazing dust storms but the worst, the dead bugs. I wish I could just flick the bugs off but, with what hands. I have been crying out to them to not just wash me but all of us knowing that they've gone through the same thing as I.

Finally it was summer and we really got their attention. We would close right when they opened us and when they closed us we opened, by golly they were furious. It finally looked like we were about to be cleaned  until the Wilson kid showed up with his gang of friends. They started to play baseball and what do you know they broke Fred the window just above me. Immediately Mrs Wilson started to panic and call Feldco, soon after they replaced ted they took a look at all of us. They were finally thinking of cleaning us when they decided it would take to long and they would need more elbow grease than what they had.

Sadly right before the repair men had left Mr Wilson asked them to replace all of us and so we sit now in a landfill longing to be cleaned.

The Man Village Book(more like essay)

If you've ever seen a show like "Law and Order" you know everyone has a role but you never get to see everyone's view on things . In The Jungle Book there are many characters just like a TV show. There is the lead or main character and sub characters you don't get the whole story on. When you don’t get the sub characters stories you don't know this question; Are they more important than the main character?

In the book The Jungle Book the main character is Mowgli (jungle word for frog) given to him by his wolf pack. Mowgli strayed away from his village and had to learn the ways of the jungle. If we take Mowgli's view in this book and truly analyze It; the results would show that he was a young boy trying to live and learn the ways of the jungle(not by choice) while coming upon the struggles of the Banderlog and Sherkhan some of the most hated animals in the jungle. Then its also a happy time for Mowgli, he finds his birth mom and overcomes the struggles of Sherkhan and the Banderlog If anyone else were to be the main character this story would have drastic changes.

If you were to take this story from the point of view of a human in this story not animal but a human like the chief hunter in the Man-Village you would see a very different story.  The chief hunter hates Mowgli after Mowgli comes back and calls him a buffoon and an idiot because the stories he told were true but he though they were wrong. Then he went to not only hunt the tiger(which Mowgli killed) but also eliminate Mowgli. When the hunter said that Mowgli used magic they believed him and Mowgli became an outcast. Mowgli destroyed the land and saved his family, while rescuing jungle and killing man.

So as you can see without  Mowgli there would be no story; therefore no essay to see if the point of view of a sub character could be more important. Now your asking why is this relevant; well this essay is worth nothing because I would be a sub character to Ruyard Kippling who is the writer(main character) and with no writer there is no book which means there isn't an essay. All in all without the main characters point of view there is no point.

In the poem "Field Below" the tone of the poem matched the way they sang it.It was very sad and depressing in a way that most people wouldn't think. Slow music shows that its not going to be happy or upbeat; since slow is the opposite of fast this will be a sad song. She is most likely regretting decisions that he/she made. " I wish I would have seen the field below," that whole line is showing that whatever decision that the narrator made that they wish they could have seen the outcome before their decision.

In the poem/song "Big Yellow Taxi" the tone of the poem was very sad yet, the song in its newest version is very up beat and happy. The overall message is to show that you don't know what you have until it's taken away. "Big Yellow Taxi" is also showing an awareness about the environment/nature; the poem states this when it says "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot,", but if the song is upbeat the person might be happy about getting rid of the trees and bringing industry to where he lives. The song is upbeat until he looses his girl friend to the city which is symbolized as the big yellow taxi.

So you may ask what the main ideas of the poems are; well I think that they are about regret and not thinking decisions through. The lone difference is the people that sing the song because the overall message will always stay the same.

GUMMI BEARS!?!

Scrumptious, Yumptios, they fit in my tumptios,
They are sweet and sugary better than my boogeries,
and they beat the smores on the end of my sword,
With the gluten mixed with the fruitin,
This is why they are gummy and yummy that fit in my tummy.

When they are gone I sing a little song,
Short and sweet better than my feet,
It has a little toon that will come up soon.

When the gummies left there had been a theft
my brother stole them and took a hold of them
He put them in his face and slaughtered them all
Then I played them taps and said a little rap.

O gummies you were so very yummy
but your time has come to sing your little song
That will kill the thrill of the end
Because it is short and sweet and better than my feet
Your time has come to an end.

Mother to Son

In the poem "Mother to Son" Langston Hughes expresses many tones but the main idea is to keep on moving forward through the rough and tough times. He uses many parts of figurative speech including metaphors and similes. Langston uses the metaphor "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair." to show that life is hard and there will be tough times, but you need to power through those or you'll fall behind. A quote from Forest Gump can also explain it "Life's like a box of chocolates, you'll never know what you get.". What Forest is saying is similar to what the mother is saying is that you'll get many different obstacles but you have to eat them(keep chugging).

Montag

Montag would walk heavily on his feet, sturdy and tall. Montag(as I would imagine) would be as short as a stack of ashes and stocky like a bull. He would be very built with a lot of ash streaks across his body like the paint on a soldiers face. Montag would be confused but still thinking why we would have books and other items in our class. He would be very appropriate but strong with his opinions and very strict. He would smell of ash. But with all of the knowledge we provided with him he would walk a very different person.

The Consperacy Theory

Dear Future Self,

If you are reading this you are still pondering the thought of Jonas and his absence. Did you forget, you helped him plan his escape? But you are wondering why? Well the main reason was because he saw what they were going to do to Gabriel the new child, yet there were other factors. He could handle the pain, for the most part but it was stressful trying to keep the secrets. In addition to that you are wondering why you would let him leave, leaving you to handle the havoc of the community? Well its not like it was your first time if you could do it with Rosemary you can do it again but this will take a lot more time. You did well on this choice get it out of your head and just give. But don't tell them the truth say that he drowned in the river and celebrate the loss.

Until You Think of This Again ,
The Giver

What Would You Do?

Authors Note: I am writing this piece because I need to get a 9-10 in predicting for any story and for this I chose The Giver.

Imagine being trapped in the set of I am Legend, a tragic zombie apocalypse; this is almost what it is like for Jonas in Lois Lowry's The Giver. Jonas is trapped in a world in which it seems as everyone is brain washed. In any novel in which the setting is a perfect utopian society it is most likely highly unrealistic. Since this is a perfect utopian world in which everything is controlled, it is most likely an irony in which the society knows nothing.

This realistic story can be nothing else but an irony. In the utopian society no one can fall in love but they can become attached to things. Becoming attached to things never ends in life symbolism; normally in stories attachment is terrible it gets ripped away and ends in death symbolism. For example this happened in Marley and Me the main character gets attached and loves this dog named Marley, then Marley cycles through her life and she dies. The first plot on the ironic plot line is world in chaos; yet their perfect society is because the giver isn't telling everyone what's happening or what has happened. Also the purpose of an irony is to make us feel better about ourselves, better about our lives. Their perfect society is terrible they can't do many things that we can even though they are perfect. We can love while they can't. We can ride a bike whenever we want while they can't. We can choose to do or not do many things; our career, our spouses and our lifestyle. Now on the plotline we have major conflict in which they are grasping for life or sanity. In this case I believe that Jonas will be selected as The Receiver and he realizes the pain and suffering that he will have to face for the rest of his life. Jonas can't turn away from these fears as the community had experienced before with Rosemary. Finally in an irony it ends with death symbolism; with death symbolism it makes many lives a living nightmare. Gabriel will be the cause of all of this mess; Jonas who had taken memories from The Giver will cause havoc just like Rosemary caused. With the prior knowledge to this I believe that Jonas battles the pros and cons of the situation and runs away with Gabe. I believe that they will not be able to survive and the community will be haunted by the terrible memories.

I can guarantee that it will not end well for the main character Jonas as he will become The Receiver; in which he becomes The Receiver he will encounter many obstacles to help a new child which he has become attached to. Concluding the thought of this bad life ahead most people think the receiver is almighty and powerful, wrong! The receiver A.K.A.(also known as) The Giver is a very lonely old man who is haunted by the terrifying memories but gets to laugh at the happy memories. One group of people of who he has a strong influence on is the elders (the chairmen of the community). I guarantee that this book will go out with a bang.

In Steven Gould's novel, "Jumper" David, the main character can "Jump" to any place he can visualize. This novel shows exactly what the giver is showing, a character deceiving society just like how the giver is deceiving society in the way that he knows all and can’t tell. I can guarantee the characters powers and thoughts won't last the test of time.

Much like David being able to "Jump", The Giver knows all and society knows nothing. Yet, Jonas is learning that the knowledge of the past is not always best; the society is use to the sameness and the unexciting environment. There is nothing that Jonas can do to save society and him. If Jonas saves one he destroys the other, see there is no such thing as a utopia and it will never be able to occur and if it does there will still be major flaws much like this one.

Character Analyisis

Authors Note: I wrote this character analysis to get a 9 or 10 character analysis and idea development on an open topic.

If you’re walking down the street and you see a random homeless person doing bizarre things for money do you ever wonder why? Maybe it’s not their fault, maybe it was how they were treated when they were younger, maybe you knew him and he changed drastically? Would you pay attention then?

In the book The Lightening Thief the main character Percy Jackson is a little different than most kids. For example he can stay under water for as long as he wants. He has dyslexia so he gets pretty frustrated at school; finally he comes home to an unloving step- dad that abuses him. Yet almost all of it is no accident. Percy is the son of Poseidon which also makes Percy a half blood. He can stay under water longer because he is the son of the God of water. His dyslexia is a result of being able to read in Greek. His step dad on the other hand is realized by his father but he can’t do much about it except sit and watch to have Percy eventually figure it out.

Percy has always had a can do attitude. I mean he risked his very own soul for his moms by going to the underworld and never gave up while also being very ignorant because he fails to understand what's really going on. He values and cherishes his mother a lot because she is one of his closest family members the only one he knows well; like I mentioned earlier he risked his life for hers. But over the course of the book Percy realizes that the nonsense of being a half blood and the gods and goddesses were true; Percy had also believed that his dad had left for sea when he was born( which he did) but he soon found that his mom had been lying and that he was part god. Percy truly changed over the book and became a smarter more sophisticated person.

Percy reminds me of David the main character of Jumper. They both realize strange things that they can do, Percy can do many things with water and David can go anywhere he can visualize in his head. These are both very special talents but one thing they both lack is one parent David is missing his very loving caring mother( she was abused by his father) and Percy is missing his dad left with his loving mother and abusive step dad. All in all they both had it rough until they found out their lot in life running away; but if you really would have noticed them and their lifestyle they could have been the freak on the corner because when they ran away they lived a better life.

Song Annalyisis

Authors Note: I wrote this piece for fun but not necessarily in a fun way, it's supposed to show what we don't normally think about and to encourage you to do more with your life.

Nothing good will ever happen too us. We don't just say but we act it out, our lives are going nowhere unless we take action. Yet lots of good things happen in the world. We feel bad for those who feel this way but we don't really know their life and experience it. I'm sure if anyone who lived in the ghetto as a child has had one thing happen that has changed their life. Lupe Fiasco understands and pushes people in this situation in his song " The Show Goes On," and has touched those people in the way that it shows  at least someone cares.

Anybody can make a huge mistake or a great finding, all in the matter of seconds. Right when we see what we have done we notice if we made a mistake or if we did something good. Lupe explains it if as a ghetto boy or girl, they've never been noticed because they aren't in the best place. They need to rise up to the occasion and do something great. He shows that because the way he says those things in his song trying to encourage them. They need to do something great to get out of the enclosing darkness of the ghetto.

I have experienced having to prove myself many times to get noticed by classmates, my brother and my step dad. I try out for many teams for the past 4 years I've tried out for the baseball team, I made it the first year but the next year changed me. I got cut from the team I felt terrible if there was only one way I could get back onto that team I would be happy. So then I realized what it felt like to get cut from the team and still keep trying out for it just like all the other kids. So I worked during the season by playing pyb( Pewaukee youth baseball) but there wasn't much competition there. Then I went to a camp with some friends and got great evaluations and to top it all of in the off-season I worked with one of the coaches until tryouts. After the tryout I had gotten my letter. I was frightened to open thinking about last year. Then I thought is this really what I want to hide from things I couldn't do? Finally all of that hard work payed-off and I made the team. Another special thing happened that year my team went to Cooperstown, NY for an all-star tournament. But thanks to that year I had learned very much about many things.

In Lupe's song it talks about being in your dream waking up and living it but its underlying meaning is clear: You can do anything you put your mind to. Don't think your nothing. Don't wait to get sucked into the darkness of life just stick to your head and be the person you can be. But it all starts right now. So live your life.

Prediction For Dead Mans Path

Authors Note: I am predicting what will happen in the short story Dead Mans Path.

In the story Dead Mans Path  the main character Michael Obi got a promotion in his teaching job; he was to become the headmaster at Ndume Central School. With his promotion he got a new house and a fresh start. One day when he was admiring his bushes he noticed a path; he asked a neighbor what it was used for and all. Michael was shocked when he heard the response; the trail was used for villagers to take dead relatives to bury them and perform rituals at the school. Then Obi thought about the inspector what if they have a ritual what will happen to his school; Obi is now troubled. He is resorting to his only option, blocking the path.

What's going to happen? Will Obi lose his job? Is the school going to shut down? Will Obi be haunted by the dead spirits? Are the villagers going to break through the barricade and start to demolish the school; the villagers need to do their rituals don't they? Those are some examples of what I think is going to happen in the story Dead Mans Path.

Speech Predicton

In the book The Giver due to all things that happened in this book I believe that Jonas( The main character) will start to figure out what is happening in their utopia and will become the receiver while helping Gabriel in the process; Jonas is always noticing things that are happening that are unusual.  Based on this ironic plot line I think Jonas will find out Gabe will get released and will try to help him.  I also believe this will happen because in a book I read previous to this named Jumper David fools society by deceiving them like the receiver fooled the society and knew something was wrong.

What About Family?

Family is essential to life; they provide help, support and encouragement. What would you do if you had lost your closest family members? Well in the book My Brother Sam Is Dead and the movie “The Patriot” the two main characters who are complete opposites except for the fact that they have lost their closest family members. While being the same in some very small ways they have very many differences.
Tim and Ben are on very different sides of the war. Tim is just a child so he doesn’t have a real say in what he believes; Tim’s dad has his say for their family so Tim in reality is a loyalist. Ben is a great and very true patriot; he wants the freedom for himself, family and generations to come. He wants to destroy and forget the British. With that difference they have one main similarity.
They both have made very heroic actions in their storylines, one more than the other. Tim made a sacrifice for his brother running and sneaking a knife to his enclosed barracks and getting shot, which was a risk he was willing to make. But he never did free his brother from death just like Ben. Ben fought many battles he also fought to save his sons and daughters; but he couldn’t save everyone just like Tim.
With that these two main characters share some things but are very different. They survived through thick and thin but still suffer the emotional and mental loss. They were both proud of many things that they had done, but you can’t bring family back and nothing will satisfy your need of them.
